Black July symbolises the horrendous events that took place againts EelamTamils July 23rd and July 30th, 1983. During this period, thousands of EelamTamils were expelled, tortured, killed and even burned alive at the hands of state-sponsored mobs. Also their property has been destroyed.
The Black July Pogrom in 1983 is an important turning point in the EelamTamils’ struggle for freedom. The violent Sinhalese Buddhist mob was supported by the Sri Lankan government with voter lists.
